You see that “Warning” at the top there, well, it’s there for good reason. Because if you’re the least bit serious about learning how to defend yourself, then you absolutely must know the proven, “battle-tested” ground-fighting techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
“Most – nearly ALL – fights end up on the ground or in grappling range at one point or another.” That’s a FACT.
That means basically that if you don’t know how to defend yourself on the ground, you’re putting yourself (and even your loved ones) at extreme risk.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (or “BJJ”) has been around for a long time, long before a no-holds-barred fighter from Brazil named Royce Gracie made it popular in the early ‘90s when he won the very first UFC – which at the time were “bare knuckle” and had “no rules” – and he won it in dominating fashion, ending all of his fights on the ground using his BJJ “secret techniques”.
The crazy thing about what Royce Gracie did was that he was only around 180 pounds when he fought. He was this skinny little guy; he didn’t “look” like a fighter. But he won and exposed a glaring weakness in all of martial arts… that most people were absolutely clueless on how to defend themselves once a fight got to the ground.
At the time these mysterious moves this fighter was using were secrets to MOST people because hardly anybody in America was aware of them at the time. You had these huge, strong, scary-looking guys who had skills on their feet but once they got within grappling range, the fight went to the ground and it was all over.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was developed over many, many years as a fighting and self-defense system that will allow a smaller, weaker person to control a much bigger, stronger opponent using technique.
These techniques were proven effective in combat years ago and still today, the world’s top mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters are ALL learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
And just because the world’s best fighters are using THIS particular martial art on the ground, doesn’t mean you have to be a “fighter” or some kind of world class athlete to learn it. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is for EVERYONE!
“My 10 year old son started training here about 3 months ago. He LOVES it. He plays football, baseball, lacrosse and basketball but he makes sure he has time to train at least 4 days a week. Everyone there welcomes you and the teachers there are great. Alex the Instructor is one of a kind. He is compassionate to the kids but also finds a way to push them to their greatest potential. My son always had to watch his weight to be able to make weight for football. He is 5’2″ at 10 years old and has to keep trim. Since starting training he has dropped 9 pounds and looks the best he ever has. The training is phenomenal. The kids are always working hard with BIG smiles on their faces. We have made lifetime friends there and would recommend the school to anyone.”
Cornell Thomas: Renzo Gracie Purple Belt/ Assistant Basketball Coach @ Blair Academy
Hi my name is Cornell Thomas. I’ve been training Brazilian jiu jitsu at real world martial arts under George Sernack for four years. When I first started I was a 280lb former basketball player that wanted something to fill the competitive void that I missed from basketball and that would also get me in better shape.
I studied karate for about three years and American kickboxing my senior year in college before training jiu jitsu, so I had no idea what it was all about. I had heard the Gracie name before, and ironically while studying karate I was even given a Renzo Gracie book by a friend who thought I’d might like it. Little did I know that not only would I be studying Renzo Gracie jiu jitsu, I would get an opportunity to train at his main academy in New York city and actually meet the man himself on several occasions.
I discovered real world martial arts while driving though Denville New Jersey one day. I saw a sign that read “Brazilian jiu jitsu” and had the phone number to the school. Once I called the school and met owner George Sernack I knew that this was the place I needed to be. It wasn’t as formal as karate, we didn’t have to bow to the higher belts and for the most part it was a pretty laid back vibe.
I was intrigued by jiu jitsu from the first moment I stepped on the mat. I was amazed that guys one hundred pounds lighter than I was at the time were able to submit me without breaking a sweat. I knew I was much stronger than they were, but it seemed like the harder I tried the easier it was for them to tap me out. It humbled me from the very beginning and truly helped me understand that jiu jitsu wasn’t all about physical strength. It was about technique, leverage, and strategy. It was a physical game of chess, and I realized it was going to be a part of my life for as long as I was on this earth.
I have always kind of had OCD when it came to doing things I was passionate about. I was always was in the gym working on my basketball game. I never wanted anyone to outwork me. I took that same work ethic and put it into jiu jitsu. I wanted to learn, I wanted to get better, and I wanted to compete.
George Sernack has made our school into a family. We hang out together, we know each others kids, and on the mats we share knowledge with one another. If it wasn’t for George and the men and women at Real World Martial Arts my jiu jitsu would of never improved. Everyone took the time to help me get better and for that I’m eternally thankful.
Jiu jitsu has helped me learn a lot about myself. You deal with adversity on almost every roll and it’s up to you to get out of it, no one else. That self accountability makes you tougher both mentally and physically.
Being a Renzo Gracie affiliate school students at RWMMA get the opportunity to train all over the world, including at the main academy in New York. A group of us have been training in the city over three years with some of the best jiu jitsu practitioners on the planet. I feel that experience has enhanced my game ten fold. Being able to train with and against world class talent has elevated my game.
These are some of Cornell’s Jiu Jitsu accomplishments in tournament competition!
• 2008 bronze medalist grapplers quest U.S nationals
• 2008 gold medalist NAGA
• 2009 silver medalist NJ state Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation
• 2009 gold medalist NAGA world grappling championships
• 2009 Renzo Gracie Invitational bronze medalist
• 2009 Renzo Gracie Invitational gold medalist (absolute division)
• 2010 Pan Am Jiu-Jitsu championship bronze medalist (California)
As a matter of fact, there are all kinds of people from right here in Morris County are discovering the benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Kickboxing training with Team Renzo Gracie Denville, and if you haven’t checked it out for yourself yet, then, well, you’re missing out big time.
Because while BJJ will teach you how to defend yourself once a fight gets in the grappling range or on the ground, it also gets you in great shape, builds strength and flexibility, and is pretty darn fun, too.
Shows You How To Defend Yourself – You’ll learn how to defend yourself on the street, if an attacker grabs you, and you’ll discover how to handle things once a fight goes to the ground – whether you’re on the top or on the bottom… and even if your attacker is much bigger and stronger than you are. Because BJJ is based on using superior leverage and body positioning to overcome bigger stronger attackers, it is one of the most important martial arts to learn
Encourages Fat Loss – BJJ is a martial art that focuses on total body positioning, meaning you’re using 100% of your body at all times to maximize its effectiveness. That means your cardio will get better along with your overall body strength, resulting in fat loss. By practicing BJJ you will work every single muscle in your body – doing that burns a lot of calories, which in turn burns a lot of fat.
Builds Strength, Power & Endurance – You will strengthen and develop muscles you never even know existed! But don’t let that scare you…it’s a good thing… because instead of building up useless, bloated gym muscles, you’ll develop real, functional muscles and functional strength by doing sport-specific exercises… while still being able to make your body look fantastic.
Develops Mental Toughness – It takes a degree of mental toughness to put yourself in uncomfortable positions at the mat. When someone is trying to control you, it can get even more uncomfortable – especially if you don’t know what you’re doing. However, by learning BJJ and applying the concepts, you’ll feel more in control of your body and your mind, and the uncomfortable positions will soon become no problem.
Improves Your Cardio & Conditioning – You’ll get in kick-butt shape learning how to do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with us. Just by coming to practice and learning the moves, your body will start to transform and your muscles will condition themselves to handle the training. You’ll notice your cardio and breathing getting better, your lungs will get stronger and you’ll feel your muscles get more toned. A bonus of all that is that not only will you feel better, you’ll look better… and people WILL notice.
Increases Your Flexibility – You won’t become muscle-bound and stiff like many people do who just lift weights all the time. You’ll still build strength training BJJ while at the same time become more flexible. You don’t have to be flexible to start training BJJ.
Reduces Stress – It’s a fact that regular exercise is not only healthy – it’s a key element in reducing stress in your life. A problem with plain-old “gym workouts” is that they usually get pretty boring – but not with BJJ training – with BJJ training, you’re in a positive environment of constant learning (which is another key element in stress reduction). You’re getting taught by our trained instructors to continually get better each and every time you step on our mats… and not only that, you’ll have coaches and teammates helping you along the way. So if you’ve had a stressful day, you can rest assured your stress levels will be reduced the minute you walk into our academy.
Doesn’t Get Boring… In Fact, It’s FUN! – Our students are having a ton of fun learning BJJ. Let’s face it. Going to a regular gym can be boring, especially when you’re going through the same old routine day in and day out. Instead of walking from machine to machine like some kind of zombie, you’ll be able to actually learn something that could save your life while at the same time getting in spectacular shape and learning to defend yourself. You’ll be constantly learning and applying techniques that could save your life and you’ll be doing it in an atmosphere that promotes fun and learning.
Real World Martial Arts’ Bully Buster program gives kids the confidence they need to handle any situation and feel comfortable in their daily lives

For the past four months, I learned to LOVE training Jiu Jitsu at Real Worlds Martial Arts. It’s an awesome environment filled with knowledge, excitement, and passion for BBJ and MMA. When I’m in my truck on the way to train, I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning. The more I progress, the more addicted I become. Professor George Sernack knows how to operate a martial arts class successfully, and makes it enjoyable. His staff and himself are both extremely knowledgeable, and it’s easy to see that they absolutely love to teach and that this is their passion! If you live in this area, and want to do something rather than sit and fill your free time with TV and junk food, come and train! Check out Real World Martial Arts in Denville NJ.

Any martial arts student from advanced to beginner would benefit from training under George. I would recommend George Sernack to anyone!
“I’ve trained at Real World for four years. I love it. The instruction is great. It’s led by George Sernack who has the ability to make the most important principals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu easy to understand and apply. It’s a great group of people that train there. Everyone comes there to work hard and have fun. Five Stars!”
“I’ve been training in BJJ for a year now and when I moved to NJ I looked at numerous schools in the area. By far, Real World Martial Arts in Denville. Their instructors are top notch and the best in the area including owner George Sernack, Renzo Gracie Black Belt. The school teaches at the highest level from absolutley no knowledge of Jiu-Jitsu to the highest levels with amazing attention to detail. The first thing I noticed about the school was they made everyone feel welcome and had a true desire to help develope everyone. I saw this was their business and passion, and not just a hobby for them. They also have numerous class times throughout the week from Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Kick Boxing and as well as kids classes. I stongly recommend them and can’t speak higher of them. If you want to just get in shape or learn Jiu-Jitsu as it is supposed to be learned this is the place for you”
“RWMMA is Awesome! A friend of mine recommended that I attend one of the school’s buddy days where I signed-up for my 30 day free trial. When I arrived I was greeted by George and two of the school’s instructors, Chris and Alex, and we sat down to discuss why I was interested in joining the school. I was impressed with the time they took with me to learn what my goals where and then I began with one of their cardio-kickboxing classes and their fundamentals jiu-jitsu classes. It didn’t take long before I was hooked. All of the instructors made every class fun and enjoyable while teaching valuable techniques and skills. I signed up even before my 30 day trial was up and it was a no brainer. Now, I’ve been there for a year and a half and there’s no place I look forward to going to more to get the best workout and have an amazing time while being surrounded by talented and friendly people”
Now that we’ve covered some of the benefits you’ll get from training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with us (and we’re going to cover even more below), let’s answer an important question…
Since BJJ is based on techniques designed to allow a smaller, weaker person to defeat a bigger, stronger attacker, it doesn’t matter how big or small you are. You you’re big, no problem. Small, skinny, even if you think your “weak”… it doesn’t matter. BJJ techniques can be applied by anyone because it’s based on leverage and positioning… and the added benefit is that you’ll get stronger, healthier and more fit from the training with us.
No matter your age, sex, previous experience (even if you have none at all), whether you’re in shape or out of shape, strong or not, no matter what kind of job you have, you’re going to absolutely LOVE training BJJ here at Real World Martial Arts along with our other happily-involved students.
On top of that, while you’re training here, you’ll get no pressure to compete. Some of our students compete and many of our students don’t – it’s all up to you. You won’t get any pressure from us. What we do promise you, though, is that we will do everything in our power to help you achieve your goals in BJJ, no matter what they are.
And not only that…
-You’ll learn “tried and tested” techniques, not unproven-in-combat theoretical stuff that’s in a lot of those “other” martial arts
-You’ll learn submission techniques that end a fight or match quickly and efficiently without things getting “messy”
-You’ll develop close combat fighting skills can save your life (this is especially important for law enforcement and military)
-You’ll discover techniques and strategies for self-defense (street fighting) and competition (in the ring, on the mat, or in the cage)
-You’ll learn brutal chokes, arm locks, leg locks and other ways to finish a fight without have to throw a single punch or kick
-You’ll learn fight-ending submission holds that will make your attacker cry “uncle!” in no time flat
-You’ll discover how to control and defeat larger attackers who are stronger than you are
-You’ll transform into a knowledgeable grappler even if you have no previous experience (in fact, many students who visit us for the first time never did sports or martial arts before; they just want to give BJJ a try)
-You’ll be a part of our team and you’ll be treated with respect by our professional, courteous staff (we don’t try to intimidate people or show how “tough” we are; we don’t need to; it isn’t about our “ego” anyway – it’s about what we can do for YOU and how we can build you up into the best shape of your life while learning how to grapple in the process)
-You’ll learn the basic BJJ fundamental principles and techniques you need to have to get to a more advanced level (we’ll teach you exactly what you need to know to become a quality grappler)
-You’ll be able to train and practice at a pace that you can personally absorb and retain all the information you learn in the most effective way possible
-You’ll be able to get a great workout and learn crucial self defense and life-saving grappling techniques while not having to worry about getting injured (safety is our #1 priority)
-You’ll be training in a safe, structured environment
-You’ll experience the mental and physical rush of BJJ training as you learn techniques that you’ll be able to apply on an attacker or opponent in a real live scenario
-You’ll have inside access to all our professional instructors who are trained to “build you up” as a student
-You’ll get stronger, get tougher, you’ll improve your endurance and stamina along with your cardio and breathing not to mention looking better and feeling better (after training with us for less than 30 days we are sure your friends will be asking you what you’ve been up to)
-You’ll get exceptional service (We pride ourselves on the value we give to our students. If you have a question about anything at all, we will answer it. If you have any problems, we’ll solve them. If you need help, we will help you. We are 100% committed to your personal development as a mixed martial arts athlete.)
-You’ll be part of a team where coaches and instructors CARE about you and your success
“Training with George and the rest of the guys here at RWMMA has been a great pleasure. Before I had started training here, I didn’t have many interests other than school and work. I overheard a friend talking about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and I couldn’t help but to try out the 30 day free trial. My first day I felt very welcomed and comfortable while the environment was extremely friendly and the people were kind. After only about a week of training, I fell in LOVE with the sport. I now train every day during the week and I look forward to coming here each and every day! I couldn’t have asked for better instructors or classmates and I highly recommend that you come down to Denville and train with us. For a FREE 30 day trial…..you absolutely can not go wrong!!! And you will love it.”
“Real World Martial Arts is an amazing place to train! I am so happy that I decided to train at RWMMA. Starting out I knew absolutely nothing about mma or jiu jitsu, however the instructors and other students encouraged me and never made me feel stupid. This school is like a family where everyone truly cares about you. Being a woman in a male dominated sport could present a few issues, however at this school it is a total non-factor. Everyone is friendly and respectful. Since I began training I am in the best shape of my life…I actually enjoy exercise now! I have also made so many wonderful new friends! Finally, I feel confident in my ability to protect myself in a variety of situations. All of these things would not have been possible without Real World Martial Arts! This is a wonderful school and I highly recommend it!!”
“We signed up my son here, as he was not involved in organized sports. He gets a GREAT workout and his confidence is way up. The instructors are great with kids…Recently a bully a school who’s been berating him for many months up’d the ante and began getting physical with him (kicking, punching). My son took him down, taking him off balance and dropping him to the floor without hurting him. The class cheered and this punk has never bothered my son again. THANK YOU GEORGE AND STAFF! Worth every penny.”

George has an encyclopedic depth of knowledge and experience in Jiu jitsu/ Kickboxing/ MMA. George’s talent is being able to convey the big picture down to the small details to the students. His teaching is thorough and patient. It is rare to find teachers, of anything, the possess the knowledge/experience AND the ability to pass it on.

Seriously one of the best people and instructors to have in your corner. Great training facility and instructors at Real World Martial Arts, Denville. Come check it out…..Leave ego at the door!
Jeff Ezell: Renzo Gracie Denville Blue Belt/ Director of Communications and PR
George is a great instructor who has built a top-notch school. His students are a great group of guys and girls who push each other every day to get better. Even old guys like me feel at home there. I have been taking Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at RWMMA for 2.5 years and plan to stick with it as long as my body can take it. The good news is that thanks to George and the RWMMA gang I am in the best shape of my life.
A big problem many people who want to start training BJJ have is that they can’t find a quality school to train at. There are just not many good schools out there that are qualified to train people in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling. Sure, a lot of schools “say” they’re good, but the reality is that good, quality BJJ schools are hard to find.
That’s the bad news… the GOOD news is that you live close by to the top BJJ school in your area. And, for a limited time, we’re offering a 30-day Free Trial Program so you can see if our proven BJJ training system meets your needs.
Wouldn’t you agree the best way to really see if our BJJ program will meet your needs is to come give it a try for yourself for 30 days absolutely FREE?
Once you call our academy 973-625-9444 and schedule a time that’s good for you to come see us, we’ll give you a tour of our academy, you’ll get a free t-shirt just for stopping by, you’ll get a free private introductory lesson and you’ll also get a free one-on-one consultation with one of our highly-trained program counselors so we can figure out if we can meet your needs. In fact, we’re so confident we can meet your needs with our BJJ program, we offer…
60-Day Money Back Guarantee
We are so confident you’ll love our program just as much as our current happily-involved students. So confident, in fact, we are offering a 60-day money-back guarantee. If you participate in our BJJ or Kickboxing classes for 60 days and decide that our program is not what you wanted, just tell us and we’ll immediately refund your money (but we highly doubt you’ll do that). That’s how confident we are in the value that you’ll get by being a part of our BJJ program.
“I joined Real World Martial Arts about one year ago and haven’t skipped a day of training yet. The atmosphere to succeed is thick in this gym. Everyone strives to accomplish their goals and push the person next to them to achieve theirs, whether it be to become a BJJ Champ, gain your black belt or lose 20 pounds! RWMMA is the place for anyone who wants to train, be in shape, and have an awesome time!”
“The real deal. I have had the opportunity of being involved with George Sernack and his students for years. I highly recommend his school to anyone interested it Jiu jitsu or MMA. He produces world class students.”
Rich Serpa: Team Renzo Gracie Denville Blue Belt/ Writer and CEO of FightsWeWant.com
Martial Arts in general and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) specifically has grown tremendously in recent years. Not only with respect to MMA as a sport and a spectator sport but as a means to become physically fit and also learn self defense. The surging popularity of MMA has also brought with it an increase of martial arts schools that offer the proverbial flavor of the month? programs. Oftentimes these schools are run by individuals with showy pretenses to their knowledge, ability and most importantly their questionable qualifications in their art and teaching skill set. It is unfortunate but something that is clearly a part of the industry. Like anything else, some prudent due diligence would go a long way in selecting a good school. With that said, I have been studying the martial arts for a little over 20 years and I have seen… countless schools in that time that fall into the aforementioned category. Three years ago I began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Renzo Gracie Black Belt, George Sernack. George, a lifelong practitioner of the martial arts with over 26 years experience, also holds a 5th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a 4th degree black belt in Hapkido as well as strong background in Kickboxing. In the last ten years George has also placed and medaled in many of the premiere grappling and submission tournaments in the Northeast. His resume and credentials not only are legitimate but verifiable. Perhaps more importantly than George’s individual successes and achievements in his martial arts career is what he has given and continues to give back. George is the head instructor of Real World Martial Arts (RWMMA) a Renzo Gracie Denville. George has trained literally hundreds of people from all walks of life. In addition to the many students he has who train simply to get in great shape; RWMMA has also developed an impressive stable of both amateur and professional MMA fighters. In an industry that is becoming fraught with charlatans posing as martial arts instructors, George Sernack of Real World Martial Arts is the real deal. So if you are looking to start a new fitness program, are tired of your tired workout you do now or maybe have aspirations of maybe one day competing in the ring or cage, I would encourage you to stop in and visit RWMMA.
It’s easy to get started right away. Just give us a call and ask about our free private lesson offer. (Our phone lines are open 24-hours a day, so you can give us a call and speak with a live person even if it’s 3:00am in the morning.)
Here’s even more PROOF:
Dan Frier: Renzo Gracie Brown Belt/Attorney
“I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with George at RWMA in 2005. My obsession with the art, and admiration and devotion to George occurred during my very first class. I was 37 with no grappling experience when I began, and, although I lifted weights, I spent most of my day sitting in front of a computer at my law firm.
In addition to being my BJJ instructor, George has become one of my closest friends. His patience, deep knowledge of the art, and devotion to his students creates an incredible atmosphere.
RWMA is a great place to train, but it is also a place where you’ll meet some of the nicest, most genuine people. I give RWMA my highest recommendation for anyone looking to get in shape, learn a martial art with infinite depth and possibilities, and meet great people.”
Pat Sullivan: Renzo Gracie Denville Purple Belt/ Owner of PatrickSullivanplumbing.com
George is a great instructor. When I came to him I was out of shape and seeking martial arts knowledge and luckily I came to the right place. There are so many people out there posing to be martial arts masters that really know little more than nothing. This couldn’t be further from the truth about George. This man lives and breathes Martial arts 24 hrs a day. I have been going to him for 7yrs and still every day I step on the mat I learn something new. If you are looking for a man to increase your knowledge about martial arts I couldn’t think of a better man to recommend you to. He is a teacher a mentor a brother and a friend all wrapped up in one.
That’s it! (Simple, right?)
